Fair questions, straight answers.

The questions people ask first, then plain-English guides to your energy bill.

What does it cost, and what's the catch?

Seeing your saving is free. Treehouse is A$2.99 a month (A$29 a year), and Village, for three homes, A$5.99 (A$59 a year). That's the catch: you pay us, so retailers don't have to.

Do energy retailers pay you when I switch?

No. We take no commissions, referral fees or sponsorships from any retailer, so no plan can buy its way up your reading. Your membership pays for BillWizard, which keeps us firmly on your side.

Is it the whole market, or just partners?

The whole published market. We price every generally available offer in your area, straight from the regulator's own plan data. No retailer pays us anything, so none of them gets left out.

What do I need to get my first reading?

Just a recent electricity or gas bill, as a PDF or a photo, with all its pages if you can. It carries your tariff, your usage and your meter details: everything the Wizard needs to price you.

What happens to my bill once I upload it?

Our robot reads it, in Australia, and we keep the figures so the Wizard can watch the market for you. We don't keep the bill itself, we never sell your information, and you can delete any bill.

How is it different from Energy Made Easy?

Energy Made Easy is free and independent too, and we rate it. There you enter your details and read the plans yourself. BillWizard reads your bill, does the pricing and keeps checking every day.

When can I join, and how do I sign up?

At the end of November, right here on billwizard.com.au, where you'll sign up and pay. Your first reading takes about five minutes. Until then, follow Software Cowboy on LinkedIn for launch day.

Does it work for homes with solar panels?

Yes. The Wizard reads your solar exports from your bill and prices every plan's feed-in tariff, tiers included, so a plan that pays more for exports is weighed against what it charges you.

Do you compare gas plans as well as power?

Yes. Upload a gas bill and the Wizard prices it against the gas plans in your area in the same way. Membership covers electricity and gas together, so there's nothing extra to pay for gas.

Which states and territories do you cover?

New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, the ACT and Tasmania, where households choose their retailer. Western Australia and the NT aren't covered: most homes can't choose.

Will BillWizard switch my plan for me?

No. The Wizard shows you the plans and the saving, and you switch with the new retailer yourself, usually online in minutes. Nothing changes until you choose, and nobody will call you.

Can I use BillWizard for a business bill?

BillWizard is for households, so its plans and readings are for homes. A business bill gets a free Business Bill Check, and Treehouse and Village each cover one business property.

Can I cancel my membership at any time?

Yes. Cancel from Settings whenever you like. It takes effect at the end of the period you've paid for, and you keep access until then. Your figures stay yours to delete at any time.

How accurate are the Wizard's estimates?

As accurate as your bill allows: each plan is priced on its own terms against your real usage. Your future usage and prices will differ, so every saving is shown as an estimate, not a promise.
